Purple Details

Thatched roofs and vibrant colours.
Norby on Fanø island looks like a fairy-tale, sweet, little, town.
A few purple details for some colour inspiration!

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

My house for a weekend

There is a house on Madeira island that I absolutely love. I've been spending a weekend there almost every year since before I remember existing (I have photos to prove it!). This house is on the north coast and in the mountains, so it is the perfect place to escape from the absurd heat and humidity in the city. It may sound strange, but one CAN get tired of sun and warmth.

There is no electricity there, which means: no TV, no computer, no radio, no charging phones (or cameras), no fridge, no electric light! And that is what I love most about it...for 3 days we gather the family there and have a wonderful time just playing board or card games, going for walks in the woods, talking and laughing... and the days feel sooo long... it's just a piece of paradise.

I don't have many photos, and in all honesty the one's I have aren't that good, but maybe you can get a "taste" of the atmosphere there.

The talented Maryam of My Marrakesh reveals Peacock Pavillions to Lonny Mag

When my boyfriend and I visited Morocco in 2009, Maryam, of My Marrakesh and her husband were a tremendous help planning our trip. I had been a huge fan of My Marrakesh since before I even started Decorology. Her blog is so spectacular, that it's no surprise that her guest accommodations in Marrakesh are equally stunning. If you haven't heard of it already, "Peacock Pavilions" is a splendor of Moroccan art and craft work, and Maryam's amazing attention to detail sets it apart.

The amazing work on the steps is all stenciling..that door is amazing, too

The Sufi Scribe is my favorite suite...I LOVE the sconces!

I adore the drawing on the wall - so beautiful..

The "peacock" wallpaper on the wall is pretty cool too...

Blue wards off the evil eye.

Checkout the floor, and the lanterns in this suite.

Read and see more about Peacock Pavilions in the newest Lonny Mag.

Check out my travels to Marrakesh, Fes, and Essaouira in Morroco.

Summer Houses - Portugal

Today I'm feeling a bit nostalgic so I'll put Scandinavia on hold until tomorrow and share with you pictures of some Portuguese architecture from the middle of the 20th century.
The pictures were all taken with a Sony Cybershot, something like 7 years ago, so bare with me and forgive me for the lousy quality.

Art at the Door

As I was walking through the Rua de Santa Maria, an old street of Funchal that has been the focus of recent re-qualification by the recovery of old buildings and the opening of a few good restaurants and bars, I found out that the big majority of the old buildings doors has served as a canvas for some unexpected artistic expressions. These were my favourite ones.

Visiting Home

Back to Funchal in Madeira island for a week.

Nothing says "home" better than sitting in a café in the middle of the afternoon to have an espresso.

A mandatory visit to the Market to show my danish boyfriend the colours and smells of my island.

And a walk through the "zona velha". An old part of the city.
