Summer Style : playsuits, jumpsuits, shorts....

Alternatives to the summer dress

With the weather heating up, many women make dresses their go-to wardrobe staple for the summertime months. But for those of us who aren’t as fond of dresses, what options are there to stay cool in the summertime months while still looking stylish? Add these items to your wardrobe this summer and you’ll be ready for any occasion:

Playsuits & Jumpsuits

If you’re looking to beat the heat in style this summer, there’s no better choice than a playsuit or jumpsuit. Depending on the occasion, playsuits/jumpsuits can be dressed up or dressed down. A casual denim or floral-printed playsuit is great for a day at the park or a BBQ at a friend’s house—especially if paired with sandals and a headscarf. For weddings, dinner dates, or a girls’ night out, choose a solid black playsuit or one with lace detailing and pair it with a black blazer and pumps for a chic and sophisticated look. Make sure to add a belt to the ensemble to help better define your curves.

High-waisted shorts

For a bit of throwback style, consider adding a pair of high-waisted shorts to your summer wardrobe. High-waisted shorts—whether they be classic denim or quirky prints—look great when paired with a tucked-in tank or graphic tee. If you really want to show off your legs, make sure to pair them with cute pumps for a sexy yet casual look.

Leggings

Let’s face it: leggings are much more comfortable than jeans—especially in the summertime months. For work, you can pair classic black leggings with pumps and a long, button-down blouse in one of this season’s hottest colours: coral, mint green, sunshine yellow, or nectarine orange. For those who dare to take a walk on the wild side, printed leggings are in this season, and they look great with wedges and open-toed sandals. The hottest prints this season are snakeskin, vertical stripes, and tribal-inspired patterns, so make sure to pick up a pair when you’re shopping this season. Remember that printed leggings look best when paired with a solid-coloured blouse or tee. Dress it up with a blazer if you’re headed to an after-work function.
