The other day at work I was having a bit of a rare mini-break (my brains felt like they were about to fall out - one of those kinda days), and I was listening to a song on You Tube.
A colleague (who I like and get on well with) walked by and noticed/heard what I was listening to.
Well...... shock horror.
He wanted to know why on earth I would be listening to 'that'.
He said 'How old are you?', and mentioned there must be something wrong with me because that was one of his 16 year old daughter's favourite songs at the moment. I was more grown up than that, surely?
Ahem.
What?
Since when do I 'have' to listen to any type of music because it's age appropriate for me?
I know how to behave like a grown-up. I know how to 'be' within the context of my work and with various people.
If he hadn't walked by my corner of the office world he'd never have known I was listening to it.
It wasn't effecting him badly in any way.
Nor was it effecting or changing me in any way, except for the better.
I am who I am.
I like a bit of daft, pop music now and then.
It makes me happy!!!!
So bite me. :)
The moral of the story is, listen to music that makes you feel happy, because that's what music is for. It's not to put you in a box or categorise you.... it's to make you feel good, or motivate you, or to help you vent your feelings, or whatever the heck you want it to do.
I wanted to feel happy.
So I listened to a silly, teenager type song.
At least when I'm at home in my loungeroom no-one questions my cognitive growth because I'm exercising my inner child a bit!
Oh, by the way, this is the song....... and I still love it. Hah.

How Many Of You....
.....have the stereo up super loud and are bopping stupidly around the house?
Right now?
Apart from a 2 minute hiatus to bang on the keys long enough to write this.... that's exactly what I'm doing.
How important is music to you?
This is how important it is to me.
Happy dancing.... GO GET SOME GROOVE ON!
Just do it.

Monday Mojo.... Some Music Please!
Sheesh, I've been so remiss lately..... sorry everyone whose blog I usually get to. I seem to be lacking about another 10 hours in the day lately - bleh.
Time for some music... that always helps me get my mojo back.
This song was played at the first 'disco' I ever went to in my youth (all those years ago), and it was my most favourite song EVA. (At the time - ha ha).
I don't have it on cd or anything else at home, so I can't blast it from my stereo, but at least I can enjoy it on Youtube.
Yep, my musical tastes are wide and varied. (But you already knew that!)
I'll be back some time in the coming week with the afore promised cushion cover give-away that I mentioned a few weeks back.
Happy Monday everyone, and may your mojo be with you this week in everything you do.

I've Waited and Waited - The Song I Can Finally Share With You...
Since this blog began (quite a few years ago now), there's been one song.... one single song, that I've always wanted to share with you.
For a great long while however, naughty You Tube wouldn't let me embed the clip here... it said the embedding feature was disabled 'at the artist's request'. Gotta respect that.
Every now and again I'd go back and listen to this song, drink in the words, look at all the little 'secret signs' the video seems to have just for me.... and sigh (and sometimes have a sniffle as well).
Today I went for my semi-regular listen, thinking that I was going to bloody well write this post anyway because the song is so freaking important to me, and I'd just post a text link to the actual video. I was going to do my first ever picture-less post.... just words and a link. Whilst I was there, just for the heck of it (I'd given up doing this a while back), I clicked on the 'embed' button.
Oh. My. Goodness..... up popped an embed code.
Eeeeeeeeeek! Are you kidding! I can now embed the original of my favourite Pete Murray song (thanks VEVO and of course Pete), with all its truly significant words (to me), and the pictorial symbolism that triggers so much for me.
If you know me well you know that trees are a very meaningful part of my life. See the tree in the video? I almost lived in a tree much like that for a long time. So many cherished memories. That is my perfect tree.
And the butterfly on the lamp and on his wrist (not only is it a butterfly on his wrist... it's the 'right' butterfly), well, you know what I think about them. Their significance is VERY close to my heart.
And, the scene when he pulls down the wall and you can see that tree, across a golden field, in the sunset... well.... this post is connected very closely to the feel that scene gives me. I'm sure that memory is one of the main reasons I decorate using the colours I do in my own home.
Plus he writes on his walls and has quotes around the place (know anyone who does that?). And, he sticks his photos higgledy piggledy around the place (blu-tac is my favourite decorating secret weapon!).
At 2.35 mins you get a good look at the flocked wallpaper.... nice and rich and baroque looking. I've got a bit of a thing for that sort of wallpaper..... notice a 'shout out' to it anywhere around here???
All in all, this song, this video, these words, those images......... they turn me inside out just a little bit.
To most people it's probably just a laid back, pretty simple type of song.
To me... it's a revelation.
Hope you like it.
And so it goes another lonely day
Your savin' time but your miles away
Your fly was drownin' in some bitter tea
For seeing lost opportunity
Find your mirror go and look inside
And see the talent you always hide
Don't go kidd yourself well not today
Satisfaction's not too far away
Hold on now your exit's here
It's waiting just for you
Don't pause too long
It's fading now
It's ending all too soon.... you'll see
Soon, you'll see...
Your coffee's warm but your milk is sour
Life is short but you're here to flower
Dream yourself along another day
Never miss opportunity
Don't be scared of what you cannot see
Your only fear is possibility
Never wonder what the hell went wrong
Your second chance may never come along
Hold on now your exit's here
It's waiting just for you
Don't pause too long
It's fading now
It's ending all too soon.... you'll see

A Bit Of Bruce...
Music is so magical isn't it?
This is what I've been listening to lately at home, whilst jumping around like a bit of a ninny.
This song always makes me feel about 20 years younger and leaves an absolute electric feel in the air in the vacuum it leaves behind when it's finished.
Gotta play this one LOUD!
To find out what I think about music in our homes and why it's SO important.... check out this post (one of my personal favourites).... Where Did The Music Go? Alternatively Titled - Hugh Grant And I Have Something In Common With Our Bottoms!! :)
Happy weekend everyone!

Who Do You Think You Are?
I'm not a big lover of the Vampire Diaries, but this song 'Jar Of Hearts' (which, after watching the film clip must be used in the TV series), is my new favourite song.
The singer, Christina Perri, is new to me, but has a voice I really like.
Lovely harmonies at the end too.
What do you think?
Music is so important in any home.... you can read more about my thoughts surrounding that (and why my bottom is similar to Hugh Grants) here!
Have a great weekend everyone!
I hope you get the chance to kick back and enjoy some music you love.

Monday Mojo - Come On And Get It Onnnnnnn!
I just felt like some music this Monday morning to 'get my mojo on'!
I haven't posted a musical post for ages, and I'm having withdrawal symptoms a bit. If you're new here, my original post about why music is SO important in my home is a really good read (I reckon).
Music is one of the heartbeats of my home, and to do without it is like taking away a vital component of the life blood that runs through it.
I've had friends quite surprised by my musical tastes at times.
I don't 'look' or 'seem' like a person who would like 'that' sort of music (don't cha know).
Yes, I'm a deep and meaningful, philosophical, serious kinda girl. BUT, I also LOVE a good dance, have a whacky sense of humour, am extremely quirky, and love to get up on stage and perform..... so all sorts of music from early rock, to jazz, to classical, to musical theatre, to pop and hip-hop suit me just fine!
Music is one of the few things I can turn to in an instant to suit any mood I might be having, or as a tool to change my mood.
As such, it's also therefore one of the BEST parts of the 'atmospheric design' of my home. Painting a wall yellow might lift my mood out of the doldrums, but putting on my favourite 80s CD and bopping away in my lounge room is far less messy (unless I trip over the cat), and a heck of a lot faster!
This is what I felt like this morning......
Happy Monday morning everyone.
What do you feel like listening to today? Whatever it is, go 'get your groove on'...... and....
May your mojo be with you!

Monday Music - Some Cheap Trick For You!
This is where it all began (personally one of my fave articles ever!!).
Music is SO important to the happiness of my home. :)
Now most Monday mornings when the working week looms I'll try to post a fave song or some music I'm listening to at the moment to provide some musical motivation.
So my little groovers......... here's today's installment!
*****************************
When I was in High School all those years ago, one of my favourite songs was Cheap Trick's 'If You Want My Love'.
I was absolutely and utterly obsessed by this song for weeks. I remember, at the first real 'disco' I went to, which was run by the local Police Station (it was called a 'Blue Light Disco') for kids under 18, they played this song a couple of times.... it made the night perfect!
And, as always when thinking of our 'Musical Must Haves' section...
Ask yourself: 'Do I L.O.V.E music?'
Which leads to: 'Have I got enough of it in my home and in my life?'

I'm on a roll with the 80s music after last week.... (sorry Bobbi, more synths coming your way!)
It really is my favourite decade of music without a doubt. Paddocks ahead of the rest from my point of view (I have a very b-r-o-a-d taste in music though, all sorts and all types, not just the 80s).
OK, here we have the remake of Funky Town (the original was by Lipps Inc), and this cover is by Aussie band Psuedo Echo.
I seriously LOVED Psuedo Echo in the 80s. Many's the time I recall dancing like a nutter to this song at the disco with my jeans, white t-shirt, and yes... white boots on. (They even had tassles running the length of them - aaahh the 80s - cringe).
I also owned a couple of Psuedo Echo albums (really), and I used to play them flat out at any given opportunity.
So, let's go to Funky Town......

Monday Music - Valentine's Day.... Love Is In The Air!
This is where it all began (personally one of my fave articles ever!!).

Now most Monday mornings when the working week looms I'll try to post a fave song or some music I'm listening to at the moment to provide some musical motivation.

*****************************
This song by Australia's John Paul Young was originally released in 1978, but was re-released in 1992 for the movie Strictly Ballroom.
For those reading this who aren't Aussies, Strictly Ballroom was a massive cult hit over here.... very Aussie, very funny, corny, kitsch, and all the rest. I think it was reasonably successful overseas too!
And, it had Paul Mecurio at his very hunky best. Mmmmm mmmmm.
As soon as I asked myself what song I should post for Valentine's Day, this one just had to be it!!
I remember watching Strictly Ballroom in the biggest theatre in our theatre complex (the 'main screen'), and it was so packed, the only row left was the front row, which was about 5 metres in front of this HUGE screen.
I got a painful crick in my neck from looking up at some almost impossible angle all night, and everything looked absolutely massive, but it was worth it!
There's a few little bits of the movie in the video.... but for those who remember it, there's a bit more in the second video after.
Happy Valentine's Day everyone - may 'love be in the air' for you.
Here's the clip of that famous (amongst Strictly Ballroom fans) end dance and scene with the slow clap in the movie. Sigh.
If you don't know the story it'll all be a bit weird, but here it is anyway. (It's the father of Paul Mecurio's character who's clapping).
And, as always when thinking of our 'Musical Must Haves' section...
Ask yourself: 'Do I L.O.V.E music?'

I've always loved this song by Todd Rundgren... the words, the music, everything. Another oldie but goodie.
And don't forget, if you're looking for more great music, Bec over at Memory Garden often has a lovely song to listen to on Mondays as well!
And, as always when thinking of our 'Musical Must Haves' section...
Ask yourself: 'Do I L.O.V.E music?'
Which leads to: 'Have I got enough of it in my home and in my life?'

The Original Musical Must Have:
Music is SO important to the happiness of my home. :)
Now most Monday mornings when the working week looms I'll try to post a fave song or some music I'm listening to at the moment to provide some musical motivation.
So my little groovers......... here's today's installment!

Monday Music - All About Soul
This is where it all began (personally one of my fave articles ever!!).
Music is SO important to the happiness of my home. :)
Now most Monday mornings when the working week looms I'll try to post a fave song or some music I'm listening to at the moment to provide some musical motivation.
So my little groovers......... here's today's installment!
*****************************
I'm back from my holidays!! Yay!! I hope you are all well and enjoying the New Year thus far.
This morning I wanted to share a song that's about a word I use in relation to the way I decorate.... SOUL.
I truly believe when we decorate our houses and turn them into homes, we're creating interiors filled with soul.... interiors that resonate with the very essence of our beings.
So, in celebration of 'SOUL' today we have my all time Billy Joel favourite. From my point of view, it's a completely under-rated masterpiece... a song that deserved a lot more attention than it got.
It was a song that appeared much later than all his early (and most well known) hits, but whenever I think of Billy Joel, this is the song I start to sing.
It's also one that sounds absolutley amazing really loud! The louder I play it, the more I love it.
I've been known to look like a complete idiot singing this song in my lounge room whilst putting all the physical effort into it I can.
Jessie's the only one who's seen me though... so the world is safe!
Billy Joel - All About Soul. (Turn it up!)
The above 'live' version is actually slightly shorter than the album version, but it was the only video clip I could find with Billy actually performing it (not a half assed cover by someone).
However, I LOVE this song so much, I'm including the full length version below, which just has an image of the album cover to look at whilst it's playing.
You get a couple more verses in this one... and the words are worth it I think.
Don't forget, if you're looking for more great music, Bec over at Memory Garden often has a lovely song to listen to on Mondays as well!
And, as always when thinking of our 'Musical Must Haves' section...
Ask yourself: 'Do I L.O.V.E music?'

Monday Music - Diamonds (Times Two)
This is where it all began (personally one of my fave articles ever!!).
Music is SO important to the happiness of my home. :)
Now most Monday mornings when the working week looms I'll try to post a fave song or some music I'm listening to at the moment to provide some musical motivation.

*****************************
Here's an oldie for you!! This one is from just before the 80's (1979 I think), and it's one of the songs I used to love singing very loudly to when I was around 14 years old! Some of you on the other side of the world mightn't know it?
Chris Rea... Diamonds!
And, whilst we're on the subject of 'diamonds'... here's another favourite song of mine from John Denver. I loved it the first time I heard it, and it's always been a song that just seems to have a certain sort of lilting refrain to it that sticks with me.
Some Days Are Diamonds, Some Days Are Stone...
Don't forget, if you're looking for more great music, Bec over at Memory Garden often has a lovely song to listen to on Mondays as well!
And, as always when thinking of our 'Musical Must Haves' section...
Ask yourself: 'Do I L.O.V.E music?'
Which leads to: 'Have I got enough of it in my home and in my life?'

This is another of my favourite songs from the '80's! I used to bop around to this one in my bedroom, but I also loved watching it on the tele as well because of all the animals in the clip. Great polar bear!
Gwen Stefani did her version of it a while back, but I've always preferred this one.
So, here we have Talk Talk, with 'It's My Life'.
And don't forget, if you're looking for more great music, Bec over at Memory Garden often has a lovely song to listen to on Mondays as well!

I had my Vanessa Amorosi CD blasting out earlier on, so naturally, the logical choice for this week's Monday Music was a little bit of Vanessa!
This is one of her slow songs, but also one of my favourites. I think it was the second single she released, quite a few years ago now!

This is one of my most favourite songs from the 70's... I vividly remember it playing on our car radio when Dad, Mum, and I were in the middle of 10 hour drive to my brother's home in another state for a few days visit. We were driving on a winding road, through a state forest, and the light was lovely and dappled as it filtered through the trees. I was laying down in the back seat and singing softly along as I looked out the window over the tops of the trees and up at the sky.
I would have been around 15 (30 years ago), and it's remained one of my all time faves ever since. If I hear it on the radio I always sing and bop along!
And don't forget, if you're looking for more great music, Bec over at Memory Garden often has a lovely song to listen to on Mondays as well!

Last week we listened to the amazing Peter Gabriel, who was/is a member of Genesis. Today we have what is probably my favourite Genesis song of all time. I think it would be a beautiful song to play at a wedding.

Today we have someone I consider one of the best musicians of the last couple of decades. Whether by himself, or with Genesis, Peter Gabriel is a performer who always sounded just as good live as he did recorded.
This is an earlier live version of one of my favourite songs of his, Solsbury Hill. Timeless.
And, if you're looking for more great music, Bec over at Memory Garden often has a lovely song to listen to on Mondays as well!
