A Crisp White Home That Still Has Historic Charm

This Sag Harbor home caught my eye recently. It's at times a bit rustic for my tastes, but I think the balance of clean and modern, and respecting the homes historic charms - like exposed beams, is perfect.

In love with that rug!

Black floors in white rooms are really starting to grow on me.

The dining room is the only one that sticks out to me a little.  I would love to see a few sleeker elements brought in to counteract with the more rustic ones.

The tiny gray tiles on the floor are so pretty

Lonny mag's Editor-In-Chief Michelle Adams's Upper West Side Apartment!

Cohesive, bright, and glamorous are three words I would use to describe Adams's 475 sq. ft. Manhattan apartment. She keeps her color palette of white, ivory, black, and hot pink consistent throughout, which allows her to play with sheen and texture to her heart's desire.

Love this buffet!

I'm such a sucker for vignettes! It really lets you get a close up and personal view of other people's lives.

The giant convex mirror is a great way to open up the space.

An elegant home in white and beautiful antiques.

Rue Magazine's latest issue features a dreamy home tour of the mother of Sacramento Street's Caitlin Flemming.  Sometimes I hear the word "flea market" and visions of over-cluttered spaces fill my head.  Not this home.  A handful of beautiful antiques create a base that is tasteful and elegant base for flourishes of carefully edited flea market finds and cherished travel momentos.

The home's aesthetic is also kept crisp and clean by white walls, which act as a canvas for mother Julie's treasures

A fantastic surprise home makeover for a soldier returned from Afghanistan!

What caught my eye in this home makeover was the casual, "collected-over-time" look. What I loved way that newly wed Meg Stein surprised her Army sergeant husband with this home makeover when he returned from Afghanistan! How sweet is that?

I love the cozy but clean design of this dining room.  Wood chandelier - $50 at a garage sale...vintage Duncan Phyfe table - great deal on eBay.

It's all about white kitchens for me.

Meg already had the flat file coffee table, so she designed the room around it.  I really like the file as a coffee table.  It's unexpected, and what a great way to store mags!!

An East Village apartment by the Novogratz - A home with a vintage and scholarly air...

I'm sure most of you by now have heard of the designer husband and wife duo the Novogratz after the widespread popularity of their Rizzoli book, "Downtown Chic". Well, Rue Mag was awesome enough to feature one of their latest projects, a friend's small three bedroom, 1 bath apartment in the East Village. It has a sort of vintage, masculine vibe, and I also feel like the space has an academic feel to it.

Not only did they find the perfect rug, they found the perfect *rugs!  Layered vintage oriental rugs give the entire space an "old study" feel.

I'm seriously crushing over those gilt bamboo chairs

The Novogratz used paint to accent certain architectural details

Wall mounted, open shelves like these are a great way to make the most of limited space.

Gotta love french doors for the bedroom

A new favorite in my house tour collection...

This Ohio farmhouse is chock full of second hand, vintage, and antique furnishings and accessories, which simply make it really fun to tour. More than the house though, I love the grounds...
I love this shot...so peaceful

I adore this birdcage as decor, but I'm not really a fan of caging birds...

They scored the four poster bed on ebay.

This chicken coup used to be a cupola.

A shed is used as guest quarters.  I would probably use this as a painting studio though....

The sink is an old soapstone basin.

what do you think of the house and grounds?
