Dorothy Draper

I have been doing some research on what I consider to be great Interior Designers of our time. As you know I love Martyn Lawrence Bullard. He is Interior Design Royalty. I also greatly admire and gain inspiration from Kelly Wearstler and Jonathon Adler. They in turn were inspired by David Hicks (1929-1998) the great British Interior Designer who is the father of Ashley Hicks Designer and India Hicks, Model, Designer and Personality. Anyway after researching David Hicks - I discovered he was influenced by Dorothy Draper who was born in 1889 in New York and died in 1969. She started her own Interior Design business which was virtually unheard of in those days. Her most famous project was the Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia (images to follow).

She was so ahead of her time - these rooms she designed all those years ago could of been designed yesterday or tomorrow for that matter. Her use of bold colour, graphic pattern and black and white was ground breaking in her time. I just love it!! So it all makes sense now and as I delve further into her work and David Hicks I can see the influence they have on so many Interior Designers today.
