The Versatility of Grasscloth wallpaper

 

I said it before and I'll say it again, the versatility of grasscloth wallpaper is indisputable.  It adds coziness and texture to a bare wall almost instantly while the natural fibers provide a home with that perfectly imperfect patina.  I have used grasscloth wallpaper a few times in different projects, including my home and its easiness to either glam up or glam down a room never fails to surprise me.  In the second image below, the use of white washed wood, lush fur throw and seagrass wallpaper make the entire ambience glamorous and velvety.  
Long gone are the days when this type of wallpaper would only be available in solid colors.  Now you can find them with all types of hand printed patterns.  Ideal to take it all up a notch!

Fall Market Round Up ~ Part 2

Celerie Kemble's new wall covering line for Schumacher speaks to classic motifs distilled to basic graphics in a bold, vibrant color palette.  She felt a need was not being met in the marketplace.  Wallpaper was becoming wildly popular again, and the younger customer wanted something that felt fresher, modern. and graphic, but rooted in classicism.  Celerie was inspired by the decorative arts as well as her love of fashion and the natural beauty of nature.

One of Celerie's classic inspirations was the acanthus leaf pattern:

She was working on a project, and as she explained, wanted a narrow stripe, but with a little more decoration and a more graphic quality.  That classic architectural element dating back to the earliest Roman and Greek time turned into this:

A nature inspired motif:  cirrus clouds that also have a great graphic and Asian feel.  Powerful in a bright color, yet easily adaptable too in a soft neutral.  The Tree of Life inspired the Hothouse Flower.  It has a nostalgic feel, modernized.

Celerie's love of fashion inspired the nailhead wallpaper.  She was intrigued by the possiblity of using hardware on the walls.  A beautiful decorative element, not a passing trend, studs have been showing up on the runway for several seasons.  Perhaps she owns a Valentino bag?  The feather blossom wallpaper came from a blown up pattern on a Chanel blouse Celerie saw in a magazine.  Manipulating the size, scale, and color of patterns completely changes the feeling.

We all commented that this blossom print would look gorgeous on a ceiling!

I am a fan of anyone who believes an animal print is a neutral.  I can't think of one area this wouldn't look great.  Again, Celerie thought of the shelf life of the paper collection and its flexibility of use.  Bold color or soft neutral, the texture of these grasscloths with their hand printed quality can take the place of all the geometric patterns we have been seeing over the past couple years.

Each pattern done on grasscloth has a luminosity, matte and shiny quality, is flexible, and is both happy and lighthearted.  That is the way some describe Celerie herself!

Blissful bedrooms galore

I don't think I will ever be the type of person who wakes up at an "acceptable" hour without an alarm. My bed is one of my favorite places. Considering my enthusiasm for sleep, I also share a similar enthusiasm for the bedroom. Cheap beds or higher end, they all deserve some lovely surroundings.

This elaborate ebony bed is an amazing focus point.

Love the soft pink combined with dark gray.

What do you think about putting a dresser at the foot of the bed?

Bathroom love...

I've been absurdly busy this month, and it looks like September will be no different... I'll have to squeeze in some pampering and soaking in the tub whenever I can...

...and that wallpaper!  I'm not sure how practical the lamps are though - and I hate it when they take out the cords in photos!

Wallpaper Murals - What do you think?

I'm sure you've seen them before - wallpaper murals, where just one wall is wallpapered in an overall pattern of image.

I think wallpaper murals, like the one above, can look really charming in boutique hotels - especially if it's relevant to the destination.

 

They can also make small spaces, like this small dining room, really special and unique.  Just make sure you really, REALLY, like the graphic, and that it's something you can live with for a long time if need be.

I think that the best application for these murals is as childrens wallpaper.  A baby's or kid's room is a great place to get fun and creative.  I still remember the wallpaper in my bedroom as a little girl, and it can be really fun for the kid, and a great way to allow him/her to express themselves.  Along with the ADORABLE image above, here are some more really cute options for a nursery or child's room.  I found these cute designs on the OhPopsi.com .

It was neat to look through the places and landmarks category - and I think a lot of the murals would appeal to world travelers...
