Dark Bathrooms - What do you think?

I feel that over the past couple of years I've been seeing more and more dark bathrooms.  It definitely creates a feeling that's elegant and chic, but is it something you would try in your home?

The mirrors reflect a lot of light in this bathroom.  Notice the picture hanging above the tub?  I always wonder in these situations if it really stays there or if it was just put there for the photo shoot...

Love this one - that chandelier!

I want to replace the vanity surface in our master bath, does anyone have a wood vanity like this?  Does it hold up well?

Absolutely stunning bathrooms

There is something about a wonderful bathroom. You can shut the door and escape, even if it’s just for a short while. If you're one for rituals, undoubtedly a couple of yours take place there. For me it's a space where it's okay for me to say, "No, you can't come in," and enjoy some privacy and personal space. There is nothing like a bath, candlelight, and a good book.

Through and through I am a fan of white interiors, but there is something so luxurious about a small room painted in such a rich color. My tiny kitchen is navy blue and it makes it feel more expensive than it really is. And that chandelier! To me, anytime there is upholstery in the bathroom it feels elegant to me.

Love that showerhead! Even if you don't have the funds to renovate your bathroom, changing out your hardware and faucets can make a huge impact. Mira Showers Shower Accessories is one of several fantastic suppliers. I'm not usually drawn to the industrial look, but this is still clean and elegant. The gold sink hardware is nice to balance it out too. I’m also a fan of the wood paneled ceiling. This bathroom by a fab designer I just discovered - Summer Thornton

I have a weakness for leaded glass windows or anything that looks like leaded glass. What do you think of the prints hanging over the window molding?

The master bath in our new home has dual sinks, and I cannot wait! Finally sweetums and I won't be dancing around the sink both trying to brush our teeth at the same time!

That black tile is so gorgeous. And the simple glass shower guard doesn't disrupt from the view. I also LOVE having a window in the shower! I could never have a rain showerhead though, because I don't wash my hair every time I get in the shower.

I would prefer to see just one tile size used here, but the vanity top is perfect.

Even if you don't have a fancy glass or walk in shower, a lux shower curtain or an ottoman or chair can add a glamorous touch. The pop of color from the rug is cute, too.

Do you have any tricks to make your bathroom feel more glamorous or restful?

Modern Bathroom Inspiration

A bathroom redo is not in my future anytime soon, but if I could pick only one room to do a redo, it would be hard for me not to choose my bathroom. (It is small and outdated…) I’m sure there are other rooms that would be more practical to update, but nothing helps me unwind like a hot bath. In fact, if I want to relax, my go-to method is to fill up the tub with hot water, add some salts and oil, and grab my bath pillow. I bring in whatever book I’m reading and enjoy it by candlelight. It’s heaven – even if only for 15 minutes.

I tend to go for the standard white gloss bathroom furniture, because I love a bright, shiny, and clean looking bathroom. My priority would be a gorgeous freestanding tub, deep enough for me to completely submerge.

oh lala! Either of these would be more than sufficient.

I’ve also always liked the look “bowl sinks.” I’m not sure what else to call them…

Does anyone have a sink like this? Do you like it? I’ve always wondered if they are still comfortable for washing your face, easy to clean, etc. Here are some other bathrooms I would love to have...

so gorgeous!

How about you, do you lean towards classic white bathroom suites, or do you like to bring in other textures and/or colors (stone, wood, colored tiles, etc.) ?

Finding holiday refuge - perfectly peaceful bathrooms

I really do enjoy getting to see most of my relatives over the holidays, especially my three sister, as we're spread over the east coast. However, ever since I was a child, a room or house full of people can start to leave me feeling a bit suffocated after awhile. Whether or not you're like me in this characteristic, it's still important to take a little time for yourself to recharge. My personal favorite is a hot bath with some candles, because it's so comforting and peaceful.

love this quaint, vintage bathroom.

I don't know if I'd ever pick such bright colors for my own bathroom, but I still think it's really striking.

I've never seen a bathtub at an angle like this!  I love "real" furniture in the bathroom, like the upholstered seat you see here.

*Love* this tile and the chocolate

Okay, so I'm not sure if I actually like this bathroom or not.   The color palette is interesting - maybe it's all just a bit too country for me.  What do you think?  Do you like this palette? Like the style?

so luxurious! I could spend a long time in here.

Which bathroom is your favorite?  Do you use the bathroom as a personal sanctuary?

so cool

fabulous kitchen.  who knew a kitchen could be so luxe?

The last three are from my friend Liz's blog(s) Chomp Chow Chew, and Special Delivery.  She's a fellow RISD illustration department grad.

I love visiting with her and her boyfriend because I know that, aside from catching up, I'm in for some great meals.  They always know the best restaurants and markets.

Liz has an amazing color sense.  Isn't her palette a work of art in itself?
